Our History

The first American football teams in Portugal emerged, including the Alverca Crusaders (current Cascais Crusaders), Lisboa Navigators, Porto Renegades and the Paredes Lumberjacks.

Lisboa Navigators and Porto Renegades compete in the Spanish second division of American Football.

In the 1st edition of the LPFA, five teams participated, 4 of which were Portuguese and one Spanish:
- Paredes Lumberjacks
- Lisboa Navigators,
- Porto Renegades
- Alverca Crusaders (atuais Cascais Crusaders)
- Galiza Black Towers (Espanha)
The Lisboa Navigators beat the Paredes Lumberjacks 45-26 in the final, becoming the first national champions in history.

In the following nine editions, new teams emerged (Canidelo Celtics, Candal Kings, Évora Eagles, Algarve Pirates, among others), which unfortunately were unable to remain in the league for various reasons.
The Lisboa Navigators dominated this decade, winning the first six editions of the LPFA. In the 2015/16 season, Lisboa Navigators' hegemony was broken by the Lisboa Devils, who won two consecutive editions of the league.
In the 2017/18 season, the Portuscale Dragons entered the competition, who would win this edition undefeated.

After the LPFA stopped, we saw the Cascais Crusaders rise to the trophy two years in a row, thus becoming two-time national champions.

The fourteenth edition of the LPFA is marked as one of the most competitive editions to date. After some negative results at the beginning of the sports season, the Lisbon Devils ended up being stronger in crucial games against the Cascais Crusaders and Salgueiros Renegades, holding on for a new presence in the final.
On June 23, 2024, Lisboa Devils and Lisboa Navigators faced each other at the Clube Futebol Benfica field, and the victory was achieved by the Devils by 28-27. The Lisbon Devils would thus win their fourth national champion title.
